History

ACPHIS provides a forum for discussion and debate on issues relating to the development of Information Systems (IS) as a discipline in Australian universities, and acts as a mechanism for greater collaboration between IS departments. Since its inception in 1999, ACPHIS has conducted annual workshops and commissioned reports reports on issues important to the study of IS.

  • 1995 – Started as informal “IS Heads” meeting at the Australasian Conference on Information Systems (ACIS) in Perth and have met annually at ACIS since then

  • 1996 – Ran IS curriculum workshop in September

  • 1996 – Formation of ACPHIS agreed at ACIS in Hobart in December

  • 1997 – Published proceedings “The Australian Debate on Information Systems Curriculum”.

  • 1997 – At Adelaide ACIS it was agreed to formalize ACPHIS with a draft statement of procedures and rules and elect an interim committee

  • 1998 – 1st official committee elected at ACIS in Sydney in September

  • 1999 – ACPHIS formally incorporated in January

  • 1999 – Inaugural ACPHIS Workshop on IS Curriculum and Research at Macquarie (Sydney)

  • 2003 – Inaugural ACPHIS PhD Medal

  • 2005 – Inaugural Kit Dampney Prize

  • 2011 – Inaugural Leoni Warne Prize
